TGIF!!

I'm really glad it's friday...I don't know why but I am simply exhausted and look forward to just relaxin' and chillaxin' this weekend...perhaps lounging by my pool or catching a breeze by the beach. Either way I look forward to immersing myself in a book.

I wanted to finish out the week with a giggle.... so here are some puns that will have you smiling...no matter how corny they are..

:-)

* I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me.

* Police were called to a daycare where a three-year-old was resisting a rest.

* Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend...HUGS!!

Imagine

How can one be pro-life and not be anti-war too?

If you believe in protecting innocent human life how can you not be outraged by the stories of car bombs that kill hundreds each week? Are those people in the markets not worthy enough? How can one not be outraged by this endless war..and our soldiers dying.

Why do I get anti-abortion emails and not anti-war?

Why do I see bumper stickers for pro-life messages..and not pro-peace on the same car?

I just don't see how anyone can be both.

"You may say that I'm a dreamer, But I'm not the only one"

Imagine..peace..Imagine...then do.

Assumptions

Assumption
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An assumption is a
proposition that is taken for granted, in other words, that is treated for the sake of a given discussion as if it were known to be true.
In logic, more specifically in the context of
natural deduction systems, an assumption is made in the expectation that it will be discharged in due course via a separate argument.
I make assumptions too often and I need to work on that..I'm putting this on my blog as a validation and to be accountable...if I actually publish this, then perhaps I will think twice before I do it again..
Ok this is weird...but I needed to do it.. :-)

The road is long,With many a winding turn…

Saturday May 12, 9:30 am

Isn’t it ever…so many twists and turns, life certainly has a way of staying interesting. There are so many lessons and signs from the universe to pay attention to, it’s rather humbling. If you think you've got it all figured out....you've got another thing coming..

My hubs and I were supposed to be in California right now, actually we would be in Carmel today. We are not.

Last weekend we found ourselves in a perfect storm of sorts. A perfect storm of emotions, events and small crisises. Not with us, but with our 3 daughters. All 3 at the same time!!!! I'll not go into details..but..pre-wedding stresses, home buying and selling and the general malaise of an 18 year old all played a part in the decision to postpone our trip. We simply could not..no WOULD not go so far away with our family in such disarray. We could never have relaxed enough to enjoy ourselves.

Instead, we spent last Sunday putting out some small fires and working through some things and then decided to drive to NC on MOnday to assist my step daughter (Hub’s daughter) and her family find a house. She and her husband have 6 children. They needed to sell their home and move to a more desirable area. They FINALLY found a buyer for their home…and now needed desperately to find another home…quickly. Happy to report…with all of our heads and energy put together..we found one.. and if all contiues to go well they should be able to close on both properties and move by month’s end..YES THIS MONTH!! Whew! To say the stress level was high would be an understatement…but as usual, cooler heads prevailed and we were able to assist them.

Was I disappointed that at the last minute I had to cancel my much anticipated vacation? YOU BET I WAS..but I knew in my heart of hearts that we needed to make a difference in these kids lives..and as the universe would have it..we are in the position to do so.

So instead of touring California, we got the opportunity to spend a couple of days with our beautiful grandchildren, help out our family who was in need and we even snuck in a side trip to Charleston, SC on our return trip home. I got my shrimp ‘n grits fix (seek this out…if you have never had this fantastic southern dish). Saw some beautiful old Southern homes looking out over Charleston Harbor. Took some pictures…Picked up a good supply of Pecans and pralines and generally had quite a lovely time despite the trip’s auspicious beginnings.

We’ll get to California, of this I am sure, it just wasn’t it the cards for this moment in time.

As we we’re driving southbound on 95 yesterday, my stepdaughter called to say that their offer was accepted..they can close and move by months end. The jubilation my hubs and I felt was palpable…

We done good…and we couldn’t be happier.

California Here We Come

I'm getting rather excited about our upcoming trip to California. Husband and I are headed West in early May for 9 fun filled days. I've been perusing my Frommers and the internet to put together an itinerary. This is our first "empty nester" trip and I want it to go well. I'm hoping husband will enjoy himself so much, he'll be anxious to plan another journey.

I've always loved to travel. Many, many moons ago, I was a travel agent and had the opportunity to visit some wonderful spots. However for the last 20ish years or so...shit did I just write 20 years or so...yikes.....we haven't traveled too extensively save for our annual sojourns to the Keys (a semi-local destination) and Orlando. Now we find ourselves with time and funds to be able to see more...spread our wings, just the 2 of us. I'm counting the days.

Starting in San Francisco, we'll tour there and spend 3 nights, then rent a car and head down to the Monterey Penisula and Carmel for 2 nights..continue South to Hearst Castle and Santa Barbara...then end in Los Angeles for 3 nights.

I've got a 1gb memory card in my camera..and plan on snapping tons of photos..which I will undoubtedly post here at some point..I can't remember when I have been so excited about a trip...

MSN...TAKE DOWN THAT AWFUL PICTURE

My God do we have to be subjected to that seeing killer every time the MSN Homepage comes up? Must this sick murderer be given star status by having his picture everywhere.. brandishing weapons and spewing his hatred..

Can you imagine the families of the victims having to see that? It's disgusting and morbid..

I'm switching my home page immediately.

Oh boy...I've been tagged...

My new friend and fellow Blogger Queenie has tagged me to list ONLY 5 blogs that I love...I love Queenie's blog...but I am not counting her in the 5...cuz she tagged me...and this isn't easy..so I suppose I will go with who I have been reading every day as of late..(disclaimer: my blog reading habits vascilate...sometimes I am into serious, sometimes only whimsy...so this is merely a snap shot of right now)

Don't Read This Blog - This fellow is very bright and articulate, plus he was the first blogger I ever started reading..I believe in loyalty..plus I like his style

Why Oh Why Must It Be This Way - my dear Pug...he hasn't written in almost a month..and I understand..but I do miss his eloquence and wit. If you haven't perused his blog...go back in the archives..and please check out the lively comments sections

Me No Blog - me loves the Scary Monster - clever - fun - interesting and adorable

Parenthetically Speaking - This gal should win a blog award for great writing, humor and candor..I check her pages many times during the day.

Maydens Voyage - I found Mayden back in the beginning too. This Southern Gal has found a friend in me. Heartfelt and open...always something in her posts to touch my soul.

OH That was only 5...seems kind of sad to only list 5..when there are many I read often..I love and appreciate you all!!

Thanks Queenie Girl and keep up the good work on quitting smoking!!!!

Virginia Tech

I feel such a sense of tragedy and loss today. After the awful events that took place yesterday at Va Tech. My heart is heavy. I want to find answers, but I know there really aren't any. I have a daughter who is a college student.. I can not imagine the pain that the families of those killed and wounded must feel.

I am so very sad.

After I wrote this post this morning. I thought that by perhaps perusing some other blogs I frequent, I could find some solace. I ended up at Phos' Blog and left the following comment, which seems to be my message to myself and to all:

I think we look to God to make everything right as if he had some magical powers. If you believe in God then you may believe that we are made in his image. A God of Love. And yet many turn away from the love..and focus on Hate, racisim, intolerance, war, violence Greed, etc... We keep forgetting that we were born with the gift of free will and the brains to figure out the difference between right and wrong. That is what makes us different from other animals isn't it? Seems some do not bother to take the time or energy to do that. Some days I wonder how long it will be before we just go extinct. We don't seem to be doing such a great job of living in harmony with each other or our planet.God is not the problem..people are.My heart is heavy today..my heart has been heavy since March 2003...all I can do it seems is to try to live a life that reflects the goodness I know is there. The love, forgiveness and tolerance that we were all born with....even in the saddest times. What can I do today that will make the world a better place?~sigh~

How can you go wrong with a dog joke?

Hi friends..

I've been busy with my darling niece (15) visiting this week. We've been playing tourist..and having a blast.

Just thought I would stop by for a quick joke...this cracked me up:

A guy is driving around the back woods of Tennessee and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: "Talking Dog For Sale.

"

He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard. The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

"You talk?" he asks. "Yep," the Lab replies. After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says "So, what's your story?"

The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA.

In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running." "But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in." "I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog. "Ten dollars," the owner says. "Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?", asks the possible buyer.

The owner says, "Because he's a liar. He never did any of that shit!"

Happy News!

Wow...what a great Easter Holiday we had. It was going to be a quiet foursome with my just hubby, his daughter and her boyfriend. Everyone else was either busy or couldn't make it. Friday the BF calls hubby and asks for his daughter's hand in marriage!!!!! What happy news, we really like this guy. He planned on proposing to her at our home Easter sunday. She had no idea, but we all knew. We asked his Mom and Dad to join us for dinner and invited hubby's Mom as well. So we turned the quiet foursome into a celebratory party of 7.

As we were having hor d'ourves and drinks before dinner...the BF grabs her hand and gets down on his knee and proposes to her.. she said YES!! So with tears of joy in all of our eyes, we toasted the upcoming union. How wonderful!!!!

I have to giggle that somewhere along the way of my life and my marriage, our home has become the place where family and friends gather for holidays, celebrations and all manor of special occasions. It's almost as if we have become the patriarch and matriarch of the family. Our kids are growing up , marrying and having children and off to college. But our home is THE family home where they all want to gather. I really feel honored by this and couldn't be happier that they all feel so comfortable and at ease in our home and want to be here when the important events take place.

Or could it be that I am the only one with china and silver for 12...hmmmmmmmmm

Just kidding....so happy!!!!!!

HELLO AND WELCOME!!

Like any good hostess should...I'd like to welcome two new guests who visited my blog:

The Phosgene Kid

Queenie

I'm on a roll now....

A woman decides to have a facelift for her 50th birthday. She spends
$15,000 and feels pretty good about the results. On her way home, she
stops at a newsstand to buy a newspaper. Before leaving, she says to
the clerk, "I hope you don't mind my asking, but how old do you think I am?"

"About 32," is the reply.

"Nope! I'm exactly 50," the woman says happily.

A little while later she goes into McDonald's and asks the counter
girl the very same question.

The girl replies, "I'd guess about 29."

The woman replies with a big smile, "Nope, I'm 50."

Now she's feeling really good about herself. She stops in a drug store
on her way down the street. She goes up to the counter to get some
mints and asks the clerk this burning question.

The clerk responds, "Oh, I'd say 30."

Again she proudly responds, "I'm 50, but thank you!"

While waiting for the bus to go home, she asks an old man waiting next
to her the same question.

He replies, "Lady, I'm 78 and my eyesight is going. Although, when I
was young, there was a sure-fire way to tell how old a woman was. It
sounds very forward, but it requires you to let me put my hands under your bra.
Then, and only then can I tell you EXACTLY how old you are."

They wait in silence on the empty street until her curiosity gets the
best of her. She finally blurts out, "What the hell, go ahead."

He slips both of his hands under her blouse and begins to feel around
very slowly and carefully. He bounces and weighs each breast. He
pushes her breasts together and rubs them against each other.

After a couple of minutes of this, she says, "Okay, okay...How old am I?"

He completes one last squeeze of her breasts, removes his hands, and
says, "Madam, you are 50."

Stunned and amazed, the woman says, "That was incredible, how could you tell?"

The old man says, "Promise you won't get mad?"

"I promise I won't." she says.

"I was behind you in line at McDonald's."

Girls Night Out

too funny!!!

Two women friends had gone for a girl's night out. Both were very
Faithful and loving wives, but they had gotten over-enthusiastic on the Bacardi Breezers.

Incredibly drunk and walking home they needed to pee, so they stopped in the cemetery.

One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she would take
off her panties and use them. Her friend however was wearing a
rather expensive pair of panties and did not want to ruin them. She
was lucky enough to squat down next to a grave that had a wreath
with a ribbon on it, so she proceeded to wipe with that.

After the girls did their business they proceeded to go home.

The next day one of the women's husbands was concerned that his
normally sweet and innocent wife was still in bed hung over, so he
phoned the other husband and said, "These girl nights have got to
stop! I'm starting to suspect the worst.. My wife came home with no panties!!

"That's nothing" said the other husband, "Mine came back with a
card stuck to her ass that said..... "From all of us at the Fire
Station. We'll never forget you."

I love cheez-its and combos, they are both totally artifical, despite their claims of being made from REAL cheese. I don't think so...but honestly, I don't care.

It's great when Easter rolls around, because all the GOOD jelly beans appear on the supermarket shelves. I LOVE jelly beans, but they have to be good ones...the cheapo ones don't do a thing for me.

I heard an old 70's song on the XM just now..Patches by Clarence Carter. Wow...

I'm excited about our upcoming vacation to California in May. I bought us 2 tickets to Cali and surprised my hubs for Valentines Day. We are flying to SFO and driving down to LA over 9 days. With Stops in Carmel, Hearst Castle and wherever else we feel like it. I've been to CA, but he hasn't so I am looking forward to playing tour guide a bit.

La Nina is forming...that means we could have another active Hurricane season...This causes us great distress. So much that we may finally buy that back-up generator that powers up the whole house even the a/c. Shit I am NOT looking forward to Hurricanes.
