Floyds Knobs & Bad Sweaters

I was just looking at my sitemeter to see who has stopped by my blog. I'm rather addicted to doing that..I have no idea why. But I digress, the latest visitor was from Floyds Knobs, IN. Have you ever heard of that place? Why, according to the Google Map, it's just down the pike from Cementville. It just strikes me funny. Perhaps because I have been over at Matt's Blog and my funny bone has been tickled to no end this morning already. So Floyds Knobs just made me giggle.

In other news, its COLD here in sunny South Florida. A couple of times a year, the jet streams dips below Orlando and we actually get a chill in the air. It was 44 outside this morning when I woke up and the temp in the house was 68. We immediately banged the heat up to like 74. We don't do "cold". Apparently neither do my fellow South Floridians. As I was coming out of the store earlier a woman looked at me in my cotton sweater and said "aren't you COLD????????????" as if I was wearing a tank top and shorts. Heck I even have socks on today. I don't do socks. She was decked out in a non-matching ensemble of a winter fleece coat, a ginormus cable knit hat, complete with pom pom on top and a scarf...it was 57 degrees outside....she said she was FREEZING!

I call it bad sweater weather.

Here's how it works. People pull out whatever vintage sweater or coat they owned when they moved to South Florida..so...if you moved here in 1972, you pull out that outerwear from that year (or earlier). It doesn't matter if it looks good OR fits properly. They wear it. Now of course I don't fit into this category. I must be fashionable. I look at boots and sweaters every fall even though its 95 degrees here....and I usually buy some..just so I can wear them for an hour on a "cold" February morning and look somewhat trendy.

So that being said..I'm off to heat up some soup...IT'S COLD IN HERE!!

9 WORDS WOMEN USE‏

This was sent to me by a guy friend..of course....and...I hate to admit it...but... it kinda rings true..ya know...for some women...not me of course...am I talking too much?....I thought so

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says "Thanks a lot" - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say "you're welcome" ... that will bring on a "whatever").

(8) Whatever: Is a women's way of saying F*cK YOU!

(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking "What's wrong?" For the woman's response refer to # 3.

Winter Wonderland!

The weather today was simply grand...a breezy 86, so I spent a couple of hours today sitting poolside...listening to my ipod and looking at this in my backyard:

I know..I'm mean.

That...That...Rush Limbaugh

I dislike Rush Limbaugh intensely. I won't use the word hate, because that is what he is all about. I can't believe anyone who spews as much hatred and vileness can have a listenership of millions. What's wrong with people...do they get off on this stuff????:

"The important question for John McCain today is, is he going to learn the right lesson from this? And what is the lesson? The lesson is, liberals are to be defeated. You cannot walk across the aisle with them. You cannot reach across the aisle. "

and

"Whether you're a conservative Republican or not, you are a Republican. And at some point, the people you cozy up to, either to do legislation or to get cozy media stories, are going to turn on you. They are snakes."

He's talking about fellow Americans...AMERICANS... that happen to have a different viewpoint than he does. What an awful man...what an awful American.

I would be embarrassed to associate myself with the likes of a person like that.

I feel ill. ..and I feel saddened by people like him who call themselves Americans...it's not right.

I'm going to do something nice for someone...right now!! It's the only way to counterbalance that kind of negativity.

Caddyshack

I watched Caddyshack last night for like the thousandth time. Laughed like it was the first time I ever saw it. Love this movie...enjoy it again with me.

YAY!!

I love baseball, you may or may not know that, but I do. I love going to games most of all and have been fortunate over the years to see some excellent games with excellent players and teams.

The highlight was the 1997 Florida Marlins season. My family and I routed on the Marlins and each home game of the playoffs and the World Series. We were there when they won against the Cleveland Indians. It was an amazing experience, perhaps one of the best of my life. The energy, the excitement, I have never felt anything like that.

Our love affair with watching games in person has dwindled over the years for a number of reasons. The main one being the level of uncomfortableness watching the Marlins play on a hot and humid night in South Florida in July or August. We've gotten caught in downpours and had to leave games because of bad weather. It can be so humid that I have brought towels to sit on because the persperation just runs off the seats. We haven't ever been to a Sunday afternoon game because it's just too hot. Do I sound whiney? Just try it sometime and you'll know what I'm talking about. It's hot here..and it's humid..and it's not that fun.

Well yesterday we heard good news..... finally.....

Report: Marlins reach stadium deal
Retractable-roof park would open at Orange Bowl site in 2011

There is one caveat "The agreement still needs the approval of local leaders." But it's really looking good.

All I can say is YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!

Win or lose I can go route for my home team in the comfort of a new stadium.

Rainy Day

It's raining here. Raining as if the skies have opened up. The clouds so full of moisture that they simply cannot hold another drop. Thunder, lightening torrential rain at 8:30 in the morning. I love the sound of it..and feeling the safety and warmth of my home.

I remember when I was a child...and the bright yellow of the inside of my classroom at school and seeing the dark of a particularly rainy day. Yellow slickers and boots lined up in the coat closets. Multi colored umbrellas dripping, forming puddles.

I always felt safe and secure and loved looking out and seeing the rivulets form on the windows and enjoy hearing the water flow through the rain gutters. I don't know why I find it all so comforting, but I do.

New Post!!

Sorry Phos, you are tired of my last post about the Giants and have asked that I move on. Truth be told I have a ton of things to write about, but not much desire to do so. I've been busy with my work and my life and have been working out some personal stuff in my own head and with the assistance of my husband. He has been a terrific sounding board lately.

He and I have continued to be challenged by the issues of a close family member and have just been trying to work it out (again!!) I'd rather not go into details about that. Suffice it to say we are dealing and if it wasn't for the marriage we have, I don't know how I could handle it.

On the job front we have been undergoing some changes as well, we've grown out of a business partnership we've had for the last year or so and am hapy to report the split has been amicable even down right pleasant. I'm very grateful for that.

The positive aspects of my life are numerous. Our business is strong and profitable. Living in South Florida in the winter is one of the great gifts I have ever given myself. The weather is spectacular. We spent yesterday morning at the Lincoln Road (South beach) flea market. After strolling around looking at merchandise and interesting people we found a lovely table at an outdoor cafe and had a nice breakfast. My hubs and I really enjoy being together and enjoying all that SOFLA has to offer.

Friday we saw There Will Be Blood at the movies, which was an amazingly powerful film. Hats off to Daniel Day Lewis...wow...go see that (not for the faint of heart).
Saturday I puttered around town and spent the remaider of the afternoon watching a chick flick love story I had from NetFlix. It was great. Yesterday after South Beach, I spent a couple of hours poolside with a book...and finished off the weekend with the Grammy's, which I found highly entertaining.

My life is full and happy and I am so lucky to share it with my husband.
