for nothing?

I was reading a cheery post over at Mayden's Voyage about Valentines Day. I was struck by the words of an anonymous commenter who wrote: I have to fork out a hundred bucks for nothing day.

I felt kind of sorry for that commenter and his Valentine too. I wonder why you would bother to (even pretend to) celebrate a holiday like Valentines' Day if it didn't mean anything to you. It made me sad that his intended Valentine would possibly receive a gift for no other reason then the giver "had to". It just struck me as sad.

You can call Valentine's Day a hyped up over commercialised consumer driven holiday..and I suppose you could be right..you can detest the notion that you are SUPPOSED to give your love a gift, just because you are supposed to..or this year, you could look at the day as an opportunity to tell or show (however you feel it would be appropriate) your love how you feel about them.

Mayden replied that for her, it wasn't about the money or the gift..and I quite agree. Folks seem to get caught up in that aspect of it.. why not just enjoy the day as a celebration of love instead of a job.

I try to celebrate love everyday. Sure, sometimes I get slapped. Apparently not every woman I meet wants to get on board the "Love Train".

Try candy and flowers Pug or in lieu of that, you can get 'em good and likkered up...

Oh- Leelee, this was sweet...
And you are right- Valentines day may be hyped up- but we can make it anything we want it to be- just like Christmas.
It can be a reason to celebrate the people we love- or it can be a pain...
I like to celebrate :)
Perhaps a tad too much???

That pug is one funny pooch!
"Love train"! LOL! :)

Mayden THANKS for stopping by...your blogs often make me smile, and I lurk far too often without commenting (what's up with that??) In anycase..I agree..I like to celebrate and any excuse to eat chocolate or a nice dinner and give my love extra kisses is a good day for me. Thanks again for stopping..I am going to try to comment more..

ENJOY!!

Hi leelee. Thanks for responding to me recent post. Me read Mayden's post as well, but me chose to ignore the anonymous comment. Me felt that it were sad to feel obligated to love. In fact me believes it to be a contradiction in terms. Ya know there might be a very good reason that Valentines day is so commercial. Almost all really great things eventually turn commercial; except Jimi Hendrix, of course

Jimi Hendrix could never be commercial...We watched Woodstock the other night..I love that film...and Jimi sooooooooo Rocks...

In that case I'll have to add The Who as well.
Ain't it an incredible scene where Daltry is singing see me feel me and the sun just bursts out from the horizon! So cool!!

I was surfing on Valentine's Day - not looking for love - but rather looking for lovers of love.

I purposely have been clicking on commenters at the sites of blogs I visit. Today I went for those I didn't recognize or know. It's a great way to find new blogs.

So I'm just spreading a little love to other lovers of love.

HAppy VAlentine's Day.
