I love baseball, you may or may not know that, but I do. I love going to games most of all and have been fortunate over the years to see some excellent games with excellent players and teams.
The highlight was the 1997 Florida Marlins season. My family and I routed on the Marlins and each home game of the playoffs and the World Series. We were there when they won against the Cleveland Indians. It was an amazing experience, perhaps one of the best of my life. The energy, the excitement, I have never felt anything like that.
Our love affair with watching games in person has dwindled over the years for a number of reasons. The main one being the level of uncomfortableness watching the Marlins play on a hot and humid night in South Florida in July or August. We've gotten caught in downpours and had to leave games because of bad weather. It can be so humid that I have brought towels to sit on because the persperation just runs off the seats. We haven't ever been to a Sunday afternoon game because it's just too hot. Do I sound whiney? Just try it sometime and you'll know what I'm talking about. It's hot here..and it's humid..and it's not that fun.
Well yesterday we heard good news..... finally.....
Report: Marlins reach stadium deal
Retractable-roof park would open at Orange Bowl site in 2011
All I can say is YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
Win or lose I can go route for my home team in the comfort of a new stadium.

There is one caveat "The agreement still needs the approval of local leaders." But it's really looking good.

I know what you mean about the heat. I once went to a Kansas city royals game where the heat index was 137. I couldn't imagine what it was like on the field.
As I get old I find I can tolerate heat and humidity les and less.
Old..Hammer? I was just reading your blog..which is great by the way. I noticed that your Fave song in 4th grade was ELO Don't Bring Me Down..that came out in 1979...you ain't old yet Hammer... ;-)

Hello. I found your site by clikcing on one of my own favorites in My Profile, which was Nils Lofgren, and voila: a link to your profile came up!
And we have something else in common...

Let's Go Marrrr-lins!
Hey TroyBoy - Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the blogdom, coincidentally located here in sunny South Florida. Yes indeed I am a Nils Lofgren fan and YES INDEED a Marlins fan, for better or for worse.
I also noticed you are a fan of NRBQ....wow..I recently ordered the Live from Yankee Stadium cd It's awesome. They're great.
Thanks again for stopping by and commenting :-)
Come on down for the cactus league - you have a place to stay if you want.
How can I refuse that invitation....will you make Tamales??
Seeing a bunch of scantily clad, hot sweaty women at a ballpark is the last thing I'd want to see ... before going to bed each night.
Hmmm... I find that a tad hard to believe P.
