YAY!!

I love baseball, you may or may not know that, but I do. I love going to games most of all and have been fortunate over the years to see some excellent games with excellent players and teams.

The highlight was the 1997 Florida Marlins season. My family and I routed on the Marlins and each home game of the playoffs and the World Series. We were there when they won against the Cleveland Indians. It was an amazing experience, perhaps one of the best of my life. The energy, the excitement, I have never felt anything like that.

Our love affair with watching games in person has dwindled over the years for a number of reasons. The main one being the level of uncomfortableness watching the Marlins play on a hot and humid night in South Florida in July or August. We've gotten caught in downpours and had to leave games because of bad weather. It can be so humid that I have brought towels to sit on because the persperation just runs off the seats. We haven't ever been to a Sunday afternoon game because it's just too hot. Do I sound whiney? Just try it sometime and you'll know what I'm talking about. It's hot here..and it's humid..and it's not that fun.

Well yesterday we heard good news..... finally.....

Report: Marlins reach stadium deal
Retractable-roof park would open at Orange Bowl site in 2011

There is one caveat "The agreement still needs the approval of local leaders." But it's really looking good.

All I can say is YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!

Win or lose I can go route for my home team in the comfort of a new stadium.

Rainy Day

It's raining here. Raining as if the skies have opened up. The clouds so full of moisture that they simply cannot hold another drop. Thunder, lightening torrential rain at 8:30 in the morning. I love the sound of it..and feeling the safety and warmth of my home.

I remember when I was a child...and the bright yellow of the inside of my classroom at school and seeing the dark of a particularly rainy day. Yellow slickers and boots lined up in the coat closets. Multi colored umbrellas dripping, forming puddles.

I always felt safe and secure and loved looking out and seeing the rivulets form on the windows and enjoy hearing the water flow through the rain gutters. I don't know why I find it all so comforting, but I do.

New Post!!

Sorry Phos, you are tired of my last post about the Giants and have asked that I move on. Truth be told I have a ton of things to write about, but not much desire to do so. I've been busy with my work and my life and have been working out some personal stuff in my own head and with the assistance of my husband. He has been a terrific sounding board lately.

He and I have continued to be challenged by the issues of a close family member and have just been trying to work it out (again!!) I'd rather not go into details about that. Suffice it to say we are dealing and if it wasn't for the marriage we have, I don't know how I could handle it.

On the job front we have been undergoing some changes as well, we've grown out of a business partnership we've had for the last year or so and am hapy to report the split has been amicable even down right pleasant. I'm very grateful for that.

The positive aspects of my life are numerous. Our business is strong and profitable. Living in South Florida in the winter is one of the great gifts I have ever given myself. The weather is spectacular. We spent yesterday morning at the Lincoln Road (South beach) flea market. After strolling around looking at merchandise and interesting people we found a lovely table at an outdoor cafe and had a nice breakfast. My hubs and I really enjoy being together and enjoying all that SOFLA has to offer.

Friday we saw There Will Be Blood at the movies, which was an amazingly powerful film. Hats off to Daniel Day Lewis...wow...go see that (not for the faint of heart).
Saturday I puttered around town and spent the remaider of the afternoon watching a chick flick love story I had from NetFlix. It was great. Yesterday after South Beach, I spent a couple of hours poolside with a book...and finished off the weekend with the Grammy's, which I found highly entertaining.

My life is full and happy and I am so lucky to share it with my husband.

How timely....

I was researching quotes today, just for the fun of it (yeah I'm kind of a nerd that way)..and I came across the following. This is exactly where I am right now..and it's a wonderful way to look at my life. I feel free!

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

Charles R. Swindoll quotes (American Writer and Clergyman, b.1934)

Swimsuit Weather

Our Beach

Its January and I am ordering swimsuits. Living in Florida allows me to shop for swimsuits all year round, also keeps me working towards keeping fit and being able to actually wear one in public.

This past fall, I made a commitment to myself to go into my 50th year with a "winner take all" attitude. I've been exercising and eating right and feel pretty darn good about wearing a swimsuit. again I say 50...shmifty, I don't care what the number is, it's all about how I feel.

So I've been perusing the "internets" and found some cute suits.

I found this one on sale (yes it has a bottom)

and this on is on sale too

I thought this was pretty so I ordered it as well (it also comes with a bottom)

It's quite wonderful to live in a clime that allows me to go to the beach all year round and I never thought I'd be wearing a swimsuit dare I say a 2 piece suit at my age...it's amazing what one can accomplish when one puts her mind to it..and as they say...when in Rome...in this case when in Florida....
I'm off to the gym.......

Ramblings...........

I just sent an Orchid plant to my best girlfriend who is turning 50 on Saturday....she was always the first birthday of the year in our crowd of friends. She was 16 first and got her drivers permit, then 17 and got her license. She turned 18 before us all and was able to buy us beer (drinking age was 18 then), she turned 21 first and so on and so on. We always celebrated her birthday in advance of all of ours. Now we have reached our 50th year. Whoa...HOLD THE PHONE...50!!!?????? Can't be. Why I was just 40..how could 50 be here already? Very strange, because frankly I don't feel 50...what's it supposed to feel like anyway. As a matter of fact, I feel better than I have in years. I am exercising more, eating right. My life is joyful, marriage is great...I have much to be thankful for. 50...shmifty! Bring It ON.

In other news I read a fascinating article this morning in Newsweek. You must read this...

All I can say is I am glad that Bush presidency is over, it was an awful 8 years and no matter who wins in November it won't be staus quo. I am rejuvenated by the thought that 22 percent of this country has awoke from its robotic march with this administration and is looking towards change. The spell has been broken and the people are coherent again (ok well, perhaps not all, there is still that 28% approval{{{{{{shudder}}}}}}. The other 50% is looking at historical choices for our next president. Isn't it wonderful!!

Life continues to offer up amazing challenges in my personal growth, self realization and new beginnings. I am so lucky to have some wonderful friends and a growing family (Step Daughter is expecting #7 in September) So much to be thankful for.

Happy 50th Birthday Sue!!

Breaking News

Survey shows that children of all ages hate clowns

From correspondents in London

January 16, 2008 12:06pm

BAD news for Coco and Blinko - children don't like clowns and even older kids are frightened of them.

The news that will no doubt have clowns shedding tears was revealed in a poll of youngsters by researchers from the University of Sheffield who examined how to improve the decor of children's wards in hospitals.

The study, reported in the Nursing Standard magazine, found all of the 250 patients aged between four and 16 they quizzed disliked the use of clowns, with even the older ones finding them scary.

"As adults we make assumptions about what works for children," said Penny Curtis, a senior lecturer in research at the university.

"We found that clowns are universally disliked by children. Some found them quite frightening and unknowable."

Where You At?

I saw this phrase on a billboard today. It was an advertisement for a cell phone service. More specifically it read

More... Where You Ats

That phrase "Where You At" bothers me so much I can't tell you. When did it become so natural to speak incorrectly, when did it become vogue to sound ignorant? Growing up, we always wanted to look and sound as if we had some kind of class...maybe it was a suburban middle class thing. Maybe its a race thing..I don't know anymore...speaking incorrectly really does reach beyond all races.

Along this same vein, I heard this tid bit on the news today:

State Senate panel approves 'pull up your britches' bill

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

TALLAHASSEE -- Youth who let their drawers droop to expose underwear, G-strings or worse at school would get a verbal warning after a first offense but face suspension if they keep doing it under a measure that cleared a Senate committee Wednesday.

Now I don't know if I'm getting more conservative or what, I highly doubt that, but I Kind of like this idea. Frankly I am really tired of seeing kids underwear, although often times I am amazed at the defying of gravity (just HOW do those pants stay attached to the body, when the crotch is down at the knees???) It's always looked so damn uncomfortable. But that's me.

Now, I don't know if something like this needed to go to the State Senate, I am sure there are more important issues for them to be discussing, but..looks like the phrase "there outta be a law..." has finally caught on.
