This I Believe

I am A proud Liberal, I am a proud American

If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties ... if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.” – Senator John F. Kennedy 9/14/1960 New York

I heard this quote this morning on The Diane Rehm Show and it struck a chord with me. The gentlemen who used the quote actually substituted the word "Liberal" for the words "Value's Voter". The guests were discussing Christian Voters.

I'm proud to be a LIBERAL and a VALUE'S VOTER...and I have resented somewhat the highjacking of values by the far right. My values are in alignment with most Americans I would have to say. Just read the quote...wouldn't YOU agree with those words? Sounds like just being an American to me...that's how I was raised anyway!

Perhaps what we need to start doing is BEGIN BY or GO BACK to voting with our conscience, instead of rubber stamping our parties choices. My wish is that the good people of this country will actually take the time to really listen to what the cadidates are saying and what they stand for..and leave the strategists and spinners of each side out of their decision..

All I'm asking is that you THINK, THINK, THINK this time around..and may the best man or woman win and work for THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY.

A Good Omen?

As I was driving home from leaving my darling daughter at college, I spotted an amazing rainbow. It stayed with me for miles and miles and I was taken by it's clarity and brightness. I wanted to capture it...but I was driving alone on 95. Well as you can see, I took a chance and aimed my camera phone out the window and shot. I think for doing 75 on a highway in the rain, I did rather well. I like to think it's a positive omen of things to come.

Blondie

I've changed my icon back to BLONDIE as you can see and one of my dear loyal readers Sean recently commented on a post of mine: so what parts of blondie do you closely identify with?

I'd be happy to answer that Sean...I do identify with Blondie because 1. She is blonde (duh) No really...I have been called "blondie" by a friend..I think he was kind of hinting that I may be a TYPICAL blonde...jokingly I hope..although I do have my moments. Not of dumbness really because I do consider myself rather smart..and savvy and clever. But well.. lets just keep it at..."I have my moments" Ok so back to Blondie Bumstead...she is definitely NOT dumb.. 2.she's a loving wife and Mother and 3. now runs her own business..I happen to be all of those things as well ( the business is with MY Dagwood though)

She's a gal who has been able to grow within herslef I suppose...YOU GO GIRL..

Plus she's really cute!

Timely quotes to chew on

"Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear". Thomas Jefferson

"Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government.” Thomas Jefferson

The Circle Game

My 18 year old daughter is leaving home on wednesday. She's going to college in January and wanted to get settled and work full time before she starts. Friday she and I drove 3 hours to find and apartment and a job. We did well and she signed a 12 month lease in some student housing.

Gosh I'm filled with so many emotions. I am so happy and proud of her, but darn it if I won't miss her. Yeah, yeah I know..."she drove you crazy" you're going to say...and yes she did...my god did she ever. But as I said to her moments ago..."why is it when your kid finally becomes someone you like to be with and can actually talk to...they decide it's time to move out!" She laughed and knew what I meant. I cried and hugged her tightly.

She's grown into a lovely young lady and I know she will be successful..I just don't know where the time has gone ~sigh~

Teacher Arrested

Teacher Arrested: NEW YORK -- A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule and a calculator.

At a morning press conference, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.

"Al-gebra is a problem for us," Gonzales said. "They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values. They use secret code names like 'x' and 'y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns', but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country, growing out of the Cartesian conspiracy. As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, 'There are 3 sides to every triangle'."
The teacher was found carrying codebooks written in an arcane language called "calculus," which the NSA is currently attempting to decode.

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes." White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the president.

WOW!!!! MORE MARLINS MAGIC

Marlins starter Anibal Sanchez pitched the first no-hitter in the Major Leagues since May 18, 2004.

Magic, I tell you....magic

GO FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Baseball, College & Politics

That's what has been keeping me from posting much lately, I can't get my thoughts in order. We've been watching our Marlins, you know the Florida team that has won 2 world series? and are right there in the wild card race? but no one seems to go to the games but us?

Our 18 year old daughter has FINALLY decided that she'd like to go to school, out of town in January, so we've been busy with that. I'm super happy that she has made this choice.

AND..politics is so interesting right now..what with the election coming in Nov.

Anyway, thanks for checking in, sorry there hasn't been much interesting from me..
